Report from the edge...

School days

Here I am. Back at university after a nice quiet weekend.
Yes, it does feel like I'm back at school again. Not that I missed that feeling... at all.

Lots of things are happening. I've reestablished contact with so many people.
Martin Mau: A great friend form high school, who studied german here at KU (University of Copenhagen). We have lunch together quite regularly.

Maria Hjortholm: Another friend from High school. She is also a nicely sarcastic person. She gave birth to twim boys on march 3rd.

Tine Ekkelund Kristensen: High school too. We are so alike it's scary. She works as a graphic consultant and loves to take her camera outside. She spent a few years abroad after high school just like me.

Thomas Ebeling: This one is from earlier. We used to sit next to each other in class and literally hated each other. Now we have contact again and everything is different. We probably coudn't get along because we are too alike.

Lenette Sørensen: One of my oldest friends in this country. We went to kindergarden together. We share a lot of stuff, especially our taste in films and music.

And I found some of the guys from the old high school news paper.

Funny how people return to you if you make a tiny effort to contact them.

Springtime in my head

Hi there

It's cold outside and rainy but I haven't felt this good for a long time. Not everything is perfect and the past is not forgotten, I just feel really motivated.
I woke up one night and couldn't go back to sleep. I was feeling down and depressed. My grandmother died January 3rd. I don't really know what made the difference that night, but after almost a lifetime of depression I thought to myself... "Why the f*** not?!"
I've decided to follow my dreams. Just like that! The sky is the limit.
That might seem weird or over the top, but I am going to do it.
I will not tell you my plans yet, 'cause it's all still uncut diamonds. Be patient, kids.
I can tell you this much... it's going to be a treat for bloggers.

Life in a can

University is fine. The courses are great, the professors are top notch. I just don't like my co-students... at all.
Of course I'm different. I'm about 6-7 years older than most of them, I've seen a bit of the world and just being half german makes a difference, but there are just things about these kids that make me angry.

We get the chance in this country not only to study for free, but the state allows us to see the masterpieces of cinema through the centuries. Of course we start at the beginning. That means silent films. I enjoy the films. I respect the technical challenge the filmmakers overcame and that this is the base of what we have today. It's a way of looking back into the past. You can see people moving about and watch their body language even though they have been gone for decades. I love these movies.
Sadly my wonderfull co-students have absolutely NO respect for the foudation of this media they chose to study. At the screenings they eat, drink, talk loudly, throw stuff around the auditorium and worst of all tell each other how stupid this old crap is. I don't know whether I want to scream or cry whenever I hear this.
It's not only silent film though. Films that are just black and white are also "old and boring". What can I expect from people that start of these studies with the sentence... "Terminator is my favorite movie!". I liked Treminator too, but there is so much cool stuff out there if you just keep your head open.

Life is tough at the moment. My grandmother died a few weeks ago. I really miss her. She and my mom raised me. There are so many tiny things I miss. It feels like the universe is out of balance at the moment. I don't want to talk a lot about it.
I hope things will be better soon.

Rose of the month - September

For this month I chose...

GRUSS AN AACHEN

I picked this one because of it's wonderful purity with a touch of apricot.

It's a floribunda rose with a very faint scent.
She is the daughter of the roses 'Frau Karl Druschki' and 'Franz Degen'. It was bred in 1909 by Geduldig, Germany.
It will reach a height of about 60cm and will go well in a pot.

New movie rant

THE FOUNTAIN

I have a new favorite!
I saw it a few days ago and it just will not let me go.
A fairytale about life, death, and rebirth. A blend of
myths from around the world woven together into a masterpiece.
I love movies like this. It reminds me of 'WHAT DREAMS MAY COME'.
The whole atmosphere just pulled me in.
A movie that will linger for a long time.

Rose of the month - August

This month's rose is...

RHAPSODY IN BLUE

It's a very young rose. It was created in the year 2000 by
Warner's Roses, UK.

It starts off being reddish purple and slowly fades into a more blueish tone.
That's what makes this rose an absolute bestseller.

It's very slim and slender and grows to a height of about 120 cm.
It might need a bit of support.
The blooming will continue through out the season.
There is little to no scent.
